Mainly because a bag of G.A.M. & 500 rounds for the 10/22 are dirt cheap, especially when compared to firing the 45cal. Thompson. Although with the Tommy gun, you can sure tear the hell out of the G.A.M. and everything around them :D

Actually, it's great fun to shoot them with a Crossman BB gun too. Some of the BBs get imbedded in them, and others leave these cool craters. It's like Napoleonic cannonballs.
