Which set of albums would you rather have?
I've picked a few seminal 70s bands who launched their careers with a
string of spectacular albums. If you could only pick one set, which would
you choose?
Roxy Music: Roxy Music, For Your Pleasure, Stranded, Country Life, Siren
Black Sabbath: Black Sabbath, Paranoid, Master of Reality, Vol. 4, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
Led Zeppelin: Led Zeppelin, II, III, IV, Houses of the Holy, Physical Graffiti
Yes, it's pretty obvious which one is going to win (although I'm not sure
strictly on the music,) but I'm interested in the results nevertheless.

I was leaning heavily towards Sabbath but Zepplin won out in the end for me.

As much as I like Sabbath, I think I would go with Zepplin. This would not have been my choice 10 years ago as I would have picked Sabbath.
I remember seeing Sabbath w/ Blue Oyter cult and Molly Hatchett in Seattle long time ago. Its funny how a little poll can bring back so many great memories.

i went with black sabbath led zeppelin is awsome but i think led zeppelin gets too preechy and annoying some songs are good some are just horrible but black sabbath is that way too i dont know who the hell roxy is sounds like they forgot how to come up with good names for bands or just they where too screwed up after the swinging 60's
Maybe you missed the 70s criteria above.
I only picked three bands who started with a consistently excellent series
of at least 5 albums. Ignoring the fact the Dead Kennedys only put out
4 studio albums and were active in the 80s, do you really consider
Bedtime for Democracy even close to the level of Plastic Surgery Disasters?
Roxy Music - new wave? They predate punk, and punk's split into new
wave. I'd say they had a clear influence on punk's roots. If anything,
they were somewhere in the prog / art rock genres. Closer to Genesis
and David Bowie than Flock of Seagulls.
I thought about adding King Crimson in there, but Islands broke
the string of excellent albums.

OMG Doom, I was at that show too. The opening act was Riot (later Quiet Riot).
Dammit, Bobby, you had to throw the Roxy Music in there to complicate matters.
Well, top-five all-time concerts include Bryan Ferry at the Fifth Avenue theater in Seattle. Two of the five had to be Stevie Ray Vaughan, and one goes to Ray Charles. John Lee Hooker ties with Gene Harris for the last slot.
But we are talking about albums, and therein lies the rub.
I have to first mention (erroneously) that the first three Blue Oyster Cult albums are amongst the very best pure rock offerings EVER. They are "desert island" albums for me.
Damn I love Roxy Music. I love the way they almost parodied themselves, and then later made the music that they previously parodied. Plus that awesome Andy Mackay (sp.?) sax...
How badass was Black Sabbath? Those riffs. Ozzy's voice. Geezer Butler relentlessly pushing that huge sound along. Sweetleaf. Paranoid. Pretend you haven't heard Iron Man too often, and just listen to it. Changes. Wow. Some great music.
But here's the killer:
Physical Graffiti is the first, and one of the only, DOUBLE albums that had not one single bad song on it. They are all great! And this was just another in this hugely long line of amazing music! Bring it on Home? When the Levee Breaks? OMG... Since I've Been Loving You?
Zeppelin, ftw. I haven't even scratched the surface, and the second tier could still win out.
And that's vs. other music that I adore.
Probably harder to pit Roxy Music against Yes and King Crimson, for me.

The 70's.......where's Pink Floyd? Should be slotted right at the top with LZ, just above Black Sabbath & AC DC.
I 've always liked Roxy as well in the New wave/punk genre, but I'd put the Tubes at the top in this catagory along with the Sex Pistols & Iggy Pop.

"The only way I'm going to see some action is to bust myself to private"
Hmmm those are all really tough to pick from, but in the end I choose.
THE GAP BAND: Tattoo, I, II, III.
One of the greatest funk bands of the late 70's, next would have to be Earth Wind and Fire and then Black Sabbath.

And it doesnt matter whats right.

Zep was and is good but....
Sabbath Rules!
They arguably started Metal, Grunge, and what there is of modern hard rock.
Come on, with The Wizard, Supernaut, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Electric Funeral, Black Sabbath, Sweet Leaf, Hand of Doom, Sabbra Cadabra...etc I've got all of the best Sabbath (the Ozzy years) . You Just can't beat the overall goth influence that they injected into rock.
Zep just lucked into mainstream while Sabbath stayed cultish
