A little on the pricey side, but when you consider you have a 8BG Nano, phone, Video player, Picture viewer, GPS, Internet ready, Wifi ready, Bluetooth, 2MP camera device all wrapped into one... It starts to make sense.
Not to mention one of the sexiest interfaces ever created by man.
Just watch the demos.

Other important point - it runs OS X, with the basic frameworks like core
audio, core animation, etc. So I'd expect you can run standard OS X apps
on it.
There's no doubt either it's 10.5 - One of the key features is resolution
independent UI, so you can stick a 160 dpi screen in the iPhone, and
have the UI scale properly.

I can't stop smiling about this, we've just witnessed another breakthrough in innovation... makes all current phones/devices look like they came out 5-10 years ago. All done within 1 hour.
Apple never ceases to amaze me.
And it is really good to be an Apple stock holder right now.

Can't watch the demo, dang it.
The plugin for Firefox is not working.... hmmm?
It would have to be absolutely the best for me to switch from my Treo.
I have been using a Palm for over 8yrs, so would have to be able to sync with the desk top.
As well as have programs made for it.
Looks impressive though.

No, it's still a concern, but the overall package of features is extremely
strong.
Going from the live close-ups when Jobs was using the phone on stage,
there were no prints visible, and he was touching all over the screen
for quite a while.
We'll see what coating they're using when the reviews come out, but Jobs
is extremely hard to please - he for 'good', and his idea of
'best' is beyond most. Fingerprints would piss him off.

And to show how much quality he puts into these products, he makes a point to thank the families of those associated with the development. Those guys were working their balls off.

The iphone is going to kick some serious butt in the market. It will at the same time compete with other cell phones, mp3 players, portable meadia players, pdas and gps devices... I wonder who is going to step up next. Oh and Apple Computers is changing its name to Apple Inc.
