mic messed up

so my system has been workin great but this week my mic has decided to freak out. i would record it, but it works fine in the setup.
its messed up when i attempt to use it in game or vent (when using speex)
any ideas?
oh and it works in the setup outside of game, which blows because it works until it doesnt. arg.
