So I went in and created a soldier wearing my {P.O.W} tag so it shows up in game as {P.O.W}_Ness and just leave their clan tag field blank, just to reserve that name so nobody can try and take it. And of course, when you create a new soldier it has no unlocks or stats, and once you've applied your preorder code to a soldier, it can't be used again. Each soldier you create in your account has its own friends list as well.
I might just start using that account even though I'd have to earn all my stuff again and my preorder bonuses would be wasted, but I like using that name better.
Keep an eye out for invites from that name, it'll be me. You guys should create soldiers using the tag too, even if you don't plan on using it, so nobody can try and swipe em.

Well I am playing...
However it was a rocky start, as Ness can a test too... LOL
What a stupid server login CRAP!!!!! GRRRRR!!!
I also, after a hard time, have my name as:
{P.O.W}_Crud
No Clan TAG (whoever thought that would be a good idea should be whipped)!
Still trying to get the hang of the game, only playing single play right now.
Took me ages just to figure out how to get the grenades working for the gun!
Also have some preorder stuff, but still don't know how to enter that stuff yet.
Not having any video problems yet... knock knock.....
Will see....

To get the preorder unlocks, on the main screen click multiplayer and click redeem code, on your Steam games list, if you right click on Bad Company 2 and click view game cd key, it'll have two codes, the promo key is what you enter in the game to get the unlocks.
