Here's a .
There are many variants, but the one I've typically used is to start off
Italy with a fleet in Rome rather than an army. It gives Italy more
offensive options and a bit more power (in the standard game, Italy is
the weakest country.)
These days it's hard to get 7 people together to play a game that can
last a good 4 hours... but if you can, it's worth it. You should be able
to find a used set on the cheap. I like the older sets better - With
"deluxe diplomacy" you get wooden squares & rectangles, or plastic
stars & anchors with the standard box.

The new sets have goofy looking metal pieces. Ugly. Stupid Hasbro!

I don't feel a need for revenge unless I've been repeatedly friggin' shoveled or knifed, though the worse thing was to get butt-smacked in 1.3 -- wait, it's not over, it's coming again next Friday, it's never ending! Nooo!... However I often try to get back to the annoying sniper/MG if there's no more pressing matter. Nothing personal, but this guy need to be dealt with, right?

If you're ever up for some backstabbing fun, get 6 friends together, and
try a game of Diplomacy. If you do really well and pull off some great
backstabs, the game can get to the point of threats of physical violence.
(like playing Russia, and you double-cross your English ally - taking all
three of his home supply centres in a single turn, with the aid of a German -
supposedly your common enemy - convoy. Boy, was he pissed off! =)
